A study of cell-mediated immune function in stomach cancer(CMI test ¹× T-lymphocyte subsets)

Abstract
To assess cell mediated immune function, the author examined responsiveness to Multitest CMI in 31 patients with stomach cancer and 34 healthy subjects as controls, and the tissue lymphocyte subsets in 31 patients with stomach cancer and 6 patients with stomach ulcer as control. Diagnosis was made histopathologically by endoscopic biopsy and all of the cases were done total or subtotal gastrectomy from March, 1990 to July, 1991 in Pusan National University Hospital. The results obtained as follows
1. In healthy subjects, the numbers of positive reaction of responsiveness to multitest CMI were 3.5¡¾ 1.1(p(0. 005) and the total scores were 12.5¡¾ 5.4mm(p(0.005).
2. In stomach cancer group, the number of positive reaction of delayed hypersensitivity responsiveness were 1.5¡¾ 0.7(p<0.005) and the total scores were 4.9¡¾ 2.3mm(p<0.005).
3. The ratio of the suppressor/helper T-cell infiltration was higher in stomach cancer patients than the control.
4. The infiltration of suppressor T-cell was seen in a greater degree in cancer nest and margin than free area.
5. There was no significant differences between the degree of the infiltration of T-cell subsets and histologic type, and same results were also noted as to tumor size and lymph node metastasis.
6. There was no significant correlation between the degree of T-lymphocyte infiltration and histologic type or clinical stage.
7. There was significant difference between stomach cancer and normal control group in total peripheral T-lymphocyte counts.
